When not at university I have not much to comment on about Fashion and being a Student, It seems to die down a bit and I usually sleep a lot, Until now!
I have Started my Clothes Show Competition design project, Red Carpet themed, and very glitzy show-biz styled! After hours and days of pondering over who is my 'Style icon' (for whom I am designing for) I came up with a name, A fierce lady who is so sexy and even though I don't always appreciate her choice in attire, it is in fact the lovely Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas! It seems a bit old school style my choice, but the Black Eyed Peas are from my childhood and grew up listening to and seeing them on TV and this Summer, I was lucky enough to see them at the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, Amazing!
Other than that, My Volunteer Job at Oxfam in my local town has kept me entertained, At the moment I have a mini Project, in which I have a 'module', so a section of the shop with 2 rails and some hooks, Named- 'High Street Fashion'! I have the dutie of sorting out decent (as I would say), High Street branded clothing, Like Topshop, Miss Selfridge and River Island, In my mind I usually refer to these clothing items as 'Young Fashion', But I guess that’s a bit ageist! Then pricing up, with the special Boutique style tags, prices range anywhere from £2.99 to £19.99, depending on the Brand, quality of fabric and construction, and wear and tear already occurred. I enjoy that part the most because when I first started, I must admit, I was rubbish, I didn't know my designers or for example, a good pair of jeans for a bad pair, or how much things actually sell for in the shop, now I can price something within a couple of seconds, well most things, and there is always the internet if i'm stuck!
This Mini project will just let Me as someone interested in finding out about the world of fashion retail, and for the manager of the shop, who is always thinking of new ways to promote the shop and sell more things while getting a healthy flow of new clothing coming in, even thought a lot of it goes to waste saver! Help us both find out our customer base, are the young people shopping in charity shops? And are people bothered to troll through all the fuddy duddy pieces to find that brand new Topshop dress hiding in the back?! So with a section dedicated to High Street addicts who actually can't afford the High Street prices, Such as Students like me, The bargains can be easily located and snatched up!
