The Love of Dr Martens

For the first of my blogs on my style influence, I thought of writing about something close to me to begin. I have been wearing Dr Martens for years. I have a Original pink pair, which were my first and now a aubergene pair of 1460 W Boots, and recently have been reading the history of Dr Martens out of interest, where to my surprise, The introduction was written by Jon Peel. Where I come from, A Small Town in Suffolk, around a year ago a John Peel Arts centre opened, and for a small area of the country to be named (Ipswich area) in the book is unusual.

When you buy a pair of Martens, you will literally have them for life! (And the longer you have them, the softer and even more comfortable they get.)

Bands over the years, such as Madness, They would in 1974, call themselfs Aldenahm Glamour Boys and spray paint their Dr Martens, import levi 501's but didnt come together as a band untill 1976.  Other famous bands, like Blur, Red Hot Chilli Peppers were proud owners of wearing the boots.

My experience with the boots was a much more suberban one, Having then as a gift from my mother one christmas at 16. I never spray painted mine, wanted to get them dirty, nor even wanted to make a statement. However when my first pair were a matt baby pink with one black lace and one bright yeallow lace, you do draw attention. But at 16, with spiky platinum hair and a nose ring, I thought I looked top dog!
Now however, those pink Dr Martens are covered in paint spatters, scuffs and mud, how they should be.

To my family and friends dissbelief, I think that my boots go with everything, dresses, jeans and skirts, not to mention shorts and maxi dresses. And to my boyfriends horror, I do wear them with everything and anything!
Once you own a pair you will literally never go back to other boots, Yes they cost a bit of dollar, and yes they are heavy on your feet, but oh very comfortable indeed!
